Glossary

List of domain-specific terms used in this documentation.

  • COP - The coefficient of performance or COP (sometimes CP or CoP) of a heat pump, refrigerator or air conditioning system is a ratio of useful heating or cooling provided to work (energy) required. Higher COPs equate to higher efficiency, lower energy (power) consumption and thus lower operating costs. The COP is used in thermodynamics.

  • HVAC - Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.

  • IPMVP report - A formal Measurement & Verification (M&V) report prepared according to the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP). Its purpose is to quantify and document energy savings achieved by HVAC projects such as retrofits, upgrades, or optimization measures.

  • M&V kit - Measurement and Verification kit used to monitor chiller’s COP during baseline and reporting periods.
